I haven't drawn anything in a really loooooooooong time...nothing outside of a handful of poopy sketches on random napkins and such. Welp, work got kind of weird, so as a form of my own private rebellion, my work-related productivity went WAY down, but since I can be pretty work-minded (stop laughing!) and have to be doing SOMETHING to pass the time, my art productivity went WAY up.

Not that it's real art. Just HP stuff which will probably always be my guilty pleasure. So...as per Annie's request, here's a couple things inspired by HP and the DH. Mostly, I was trying to figure out what it's like to draw for fun again, and it was a chance for me to make nice with my tablet as I've let it collect dust for like, half a year.

And...

I totally want a Jayne beanie.
Dear LJ,

It's been months and months since I've posted anything here. Why is that? Originally, I had thought of you as a place I could keep an eye on my friends, collect my thoughts for retrospective analysis, and post art as encouragement to make art.

The last time I put two words together here was last November. Yeah, writing here is not a priority of mine, nor does it feel like it should be, but it does reflect my steadily growing habit of hiding myself away.

So here I am again, making an effort. I'll take into account that I have been busy, what with work, school, portfolios, and my health goals. But things have settled quite a bit and I want to make sure I'm part of this community again, as I'm preparing to move to a new city, and pursue new things, in a new environment.

But thanks, for hanging around, and waiting for me just in case I had something to say.

~ J

    <lj:music>the decemberists - shankill butchers</lj:music>

There's a little band that hails from Portland, Oregon--they are headed by an English major-type who's got a cute prepubescent crack to his voice and a kinda blue-collar-ee accent when he sings. And all the people who come and go within this band play, like, a kabuhjillion instruments including some that I can't pronounce.

I love the decemberists. And I have steadily loved them for several years now. But not as much as I do after the show at the Warfield friday night.

Thank you, Erin.

"Crane Wife" is officially an amazing album in my book. For those who are sure that it is no "Picaresque", listen again--listen to it loudly and check out the lyrics. And yes, as Deb points out--the song, "Shankill butchers" is about real seriel killers from N. Ireland who used real knives and meatcleavers to off people. Meloy knows what makes a great song.

Hi Everyone,

Despite popular belief that I quietly died stuffing my face with lead-based oil paints, I live! It has been a long time, and I can not wait to catch up on everyone's lj, but for my first post in like, a cosmic cycle, I have a request to make.

I've submitted a t-shirt design for Threadless.com--I would really like to win and see my design printed but I need your help, especially because I've submitted during the last 7 days of the contest. Hit the banner that follows this very sentence, and if you like what you see, please take a minute to sign in and rate it!

Thank you!
But now on to where the hell I've been. Well, I've officially graduated, having finished my last class a coupla weeks ago and having spent most of my time since then working at my shitty job, quitting my shitty job, moving and settling into our new apartment/art nest, finding a new non-shitty job, and of course, trying to re-find my barings on art. Oh, and I've canceled my freeservers account because they were very undependable and expensive, so tikigeek.4t.com is no more. But I just set up a new home over at rydia.net, www.moderatemind.com, and as soon as I'm up and running, hopefully so will my "hot links".

And there's grad school applications. I finally have time to start cracking down on those, and have found three potential schools. Now i'm on to requesting applications, working on my portfolio, and studying for the GREs, but now my timing is all off because i finished up my last class during second session summer school, and blah blah blah a whole lot of boring words that basically sum up the chaos that reigned supreme for the past five months or so.

But hi again. I've missed LJ. I've missed my community. *waves* to the awesome kids like artistbabe for sticking around.

sweet baby jesus, where the HELL have I been?

No internet for way too long, a surprisingly busy schedule and too much work. Not, for once work work--I'm only doing 19 hrs for once. More school work. Work work v. school work...hmmm, it's like a legendary epic battle, but without the cool stuff like orcs and axes.

Anyway here's some stuff I've been doing in my printmaking classes--these are actually the first few assignments so they're pretty crappy, not to mention they're first drafts. Intaglio is a process involving acid, metal plates, and propane torches (fire!), and monotype is a silly excuse to use the printing press. Did you know some lady got pinned under the thing in the 70s and wasn't found for 24 hours? Sweet, huh?

I totally didn't know what I was doing. And this is a draft, so give me a break.

I did this free hand (hah! no pun intended) on the plate, so uh...give me a break.

probably my favorite piece. Oil-based ink on plexi glass, printed twice. hah! I sound so artsy. I should pick up chain smoking and start listening to experiemental music.

And finally, a little fan art that I've been dying to do. It's never going to be fully finished because I've decided I hate the drawing. But I do love me redheads with hot man-jaw. Urrrrr, man-jaw...

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASH!!!!! I mean, that seriously takes a guy who is very comfortable with himself. And then Nolan decides to make like, an awesome movie that rivals Tim Burton's take on my favorite DC comic book character, promptly turning me into a raving fan girl.

*sigh*.
Dude.

Trying to find my way back to the internet is mucho hard. Especially when you are well concussed from the brutal spring quarter lashing. Working 25 hrs, doing 8 hrs of photo lab, and 22 hours of class is BAD! Unless you like being a glazed-over zombie-student who fails a class due to her amazing talent to not know about the most important book needed to pass it. The quarter then mercifully ended, leaving me pretty fucked, but beyond caring. Got slightly drunk at the first party that didn't suck for me, went out dancing, got asked out, accidently gave out wrong number to cute guy who was the aforementioned asker-outer, promptly went home to share my almost-date story with my mom, played with my puppy, met Annie (finally), and came back to Davis to work.

On the up side, Congrats to Laura, Deb, and Annie who have now graduated from their respective schools and are now setting out to wreck havoc on society. Or on some other college or another.

Here is the only thing I've drawn in two months.
